Before I came to Agnes Scott my definition of a leader was just someone who took charge of a situation who no one else stepped up. I thought a leader head to be strong and it did not matter who they hurt in the process, just as long as they got what everything done. To my understanding Leadership means being able to take charge in a positive way. Having the ability to work out problems in a respectful and safe manner. Learning what the people around you want and being able to decipher between what is and what is not helpful to the community as a whole. My Leadership class was based off of Leadership in Decatur. Our major assignments were based on how certain people were able to impact the outcome of the future. In the Cronon essay I talked about how a leader gives out good advice could cause a chain of events that would help better society. I talked about how a leader has to be adaptable and look for every possible way and outcome to correct the situation. How everyone should able to empathize with others in the world and our lives. How society should be able to appreciate and interpret everything given to them and not just focus on the specifics of things. A leader can not just focus on one specific task they have to focus on the cause an effect of that task and what it would do the everyone and everything around them. In another essay on The March, I wrote about a character named Wrede Sartorius who everyone seems to think is a person that just goes around and destroys the life of others without a care. When in reality the people who believed that did not look into their leadership skills and analyze the context of the situation. The focus was on the specifics of Wrede, which was him acting egotistic and inhumane instead of looking into the details of why he acted the way he did. As a leader I learned that you can not judge a person based on the current situation. In the final essay I wrote on March Book One, I wrote about a young John Lewis who seemingly found himself on a trip in buffalo. He was able to grow up and stand up to fight for equality and civil rights for an entire race of people and not just himself. He was able to do so peacefully within himself and his group and with that he felt much comfort in his accomplishments.
